End of Year Newsletter

Dear Central Academy students and families,

Whew!  We are almost there!  What a journey this year has been.  Even as we prepare to conclude the school year, planning for next year has already begun. I am so excited to welcome students back to Academy next fall for in-person classes.  As hard as the year was, I learned so much from you. I know in my heart that together we can meet the challenges of our times. I’ve had more than one teacher tell me this week that they would not have made it through this year without you, the students and parents we serve!

A special shout out for our Seniors in the class of 2021!  You may be tired of being resilient, but I could not be more proud of you! Enjoy your graduation weekend and  stop by and visit us next year!  You should be receiving an envelope at your primary mailing address with your certificate and Senior Recognition Program in the next few days. There is also a vinyl sticker made especially for Seniors.  It is dishwasher and microwave safe and will remove without leaving a sticky residue.  It’s great for water bottles, computer shells and notebooks.   I will send you the link to the Academy Senior Recognition in early June to give people time to finish their Stage Walk Videos.  As I am watching it unfold, it is turning out so wonderfully! Thank you for participating.

When you are finished with your textbooks (or if you have some from last year) you can drop by them by Academy.  We have a table and a box in the front foyer for you to leave them.  As they come in, we scan and check them in.

Starting June 7, the building will be closed for HVAC and Electrical upgrades. But the front foyer will still be accessible for dropping off text books between 8 – 4 M-F.  Office staff will continue to work remotely throughout most of the summer.  So, you can always email us if you have a question or problem. (kimberly.kinney@dmschools.org, Office Manager; jami.powers@dmschools.org, Scheduling assistant)

You should keep your DMPS computer until classes have concluded on June 3.  Then turn it in to the school that checked it out to you.  If you checked yours out from Central Academy, please contact Scott Schoneberg to make arrangements for returning your computer. (scott.schoneberg@dmschools.org).

June 3 is the last day of classes.  We will only have periods 1 and 2 on Thursday, June 3.  Teachers will be submitting semester grades at the end of the day June 3.

Also, remember there are no classes on Monday, May 31 in honor of Memorial Day.  Take a moment to show gratitude to the men and women who gave their all, made the ultimate sacrifice, and died in service of our country.
