Central IB Students Raise Funds for Food Bank

Students in the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme at Central Academy presented the Food Bank of Central Iowa with a check for $1500. The money was raised through their Muffin Monday bake sale, part of the student’s Creativity, Action, and Service IB project.

DMPS 8th Grader Among World’s Brightest

Ankita Chatterjee, an 8th grader at Callanan and Central Academy, was honored as one of the brightest middle school students worldwide at a ceremony sponsored by the Johns Hopkins University Center for Talented Youth. Of 40,800 participants in the 2012 CTY Talent Search, Ankita was one of 900 students honored.

98 Students Compete at Wisconsin Math Contest

Ninety-eight Central Academy students displayed their superior math skills in the 40th Annual High School Mathematics Contest winning 31 of the 61 All-Academic team honors and placing second overall in the competition held at the University of Wisconsin-Platteville on November 7.

Students Excel in Golden Circle Math Contest

Over 140 students participated in Central Academy’s 9th Annual Golden Circle mathematics competition on November 1 with 12 students winning individual awards in four categories. The Golden Circle mathematics competition is held for Central Academy math students in ninth grade and below.

Ryan Ramsay Nominated to Naval Academy

Congressman Leonard Boswell (IA-3) has nominated Ryan Ramsay of Des Moines to the U.S. Naval Academy. Ramsay is a senior at Central Academy and Roosevelt High School where he is active in baseball, golf, hockey and National Honor Society among other activities. He is the son of Mary Beth and Reed Ramsay.
