Parent Newsletter September 2019
SECURITY
Last night there was a disturbance downtown. There was a slim chance that a problem could bubble up at school today since there were some DMPS students involved– none of them were Academy students, however.
Just to be on the safe side, we have been monitoring our doors on the entire complex to ensure that only enrolled students were entering the building. Once the students who were involved in the disturbance have met with DMPS administrators, we’ll resume normal door procedures.
At Academy I was outside greeting students today as is normal for most days. The only difference was that I was unlocking the door for students. I will have someone stationed at our door to let students in until we have a chance to speak with the involved students. We take the safety of students very seriously and are simply being cautious in this case.
NO CLASSES ON FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 27
REMINDER: DMPS will have staff development sessions on Friday, so there will be no classes in Des Moines Public Schools this Friday.
SRG STUDENT HANDBOOK
DMPS has created a student handbook for Standards Referenced Grading. Find it Here. You can always find it on the DMPS website: grading.dmschools.org > secondary > students.
