Educators from all over the district are flocking to Hoover High School this week for the annual showcase event staged by the DMPS Office of Innovation: TechCon 2016. The two-day event features an agenda packed with workshops, presentations and keynote addresses aimed at sharpening technological tools for teachers to use in developing personalized instructional strategies and improving student achievement. Academy students went to South Dakota in April for the 61st annual Merten Hasse Mathematics Competition. They brought home 1st place, accumulating 180 team points. Two schools tied for 2nd place with 24.5 points apiece. Individual Academy mathletes nearly swept every category. Click headline for more details of the event.

Congratulations to Nosa Ali of Roosevelt High School/Central Academy on being one of 24 high school students from across the country selected for a prestigious Borlaug-Ruan Internship sponsored by the World Food Prize. Ali will be spending the summer in Londrina, Brazil where she will be working for two months at the EMBRAPA-Soybean Brazilian Agricultural Research Corporation. By day, Jill Gilbert is a 7th and 8th grade English teacher at Central Academy. But next week she’s also a TV star, appearing on a special teachers’ edition of Jeopardy!
