Supreme Court Visit

On Wednesday, September 17, or Constitution Day, 14 IB History of the Americas students traveled to the Iowa Supreme Court to witness our US and Iowa Constitutions in action. Students listened to two Supreme Court cases questioning rights of the accused. After listening to the cases, students met with Iowa Court of Appeals justice, Anuradha Vaitheswaran. In meeting with Justice Vaitheswaran, students were able to ask questions about the court systems and appeals process. One student, Mae Murphy, asked a very compelling question: how do justices remove their own personal emotions when deciding a case? The students were very excited and appreciate to have this inside look at Iowa and our national court system on such an important day!
