All Classes Cancelled January 11, 2018

Due to weather and road conditions, all classes are cancelled at Central Academy and all DMPS schools today, January 11, 2018. First semester will now close on Tuesday, January 16 with final grades submitted by January 18. Follow the A-Day/B-day Pattern. Friday is B-day, Tuesday is A-day. Second semester starts on Wednesday, a B-day.

New School Hours for FY2019

Central Academy will follow the new secondary school hours for next year. But, because there is travel time from the comprehensive schools we serve and our building, our bell times will be offset from the comprehensive schools (just like they are now). We are actively working with the DMPS comprehensive schools we serve to set the bell times for next fall. Currently, we are considering our hours to be 8:45 – 3:05 starting in August 2018. Nishimwe selected for prestigious United States Senate Youth Program

Senior, Robert Nishimwe, was selected as one of two Iowa Delegates to the prestigious United States Senate Youth Program. In addition to the all-expenses paid week in Washington DC for the program, Robert will also receive a $10,000 college scholarship to continue coursework in government, history, and public affairs. Academy Math Students Write a Puzzler for ESPN’s 538

The Advanced Mathematics Problem Solving class at Central Academy created one of the puzzles that Academy alum, Ollie Roeder, features in the 538 column, The Riddler, that he writes. The lead author is senior math whiz Tanner Drabek, pictured with collaborator, Nyah Davis. Teachers Mike Marcketti and Brian Reece worked with the class in honing a well-crafted problem for 538’s readers to solve. Click headline to read the story!
