Shooting at Post Prom Party

Dear Central Academy students and families,

Three Roosevelt students were injured in a shooting at a post prom party last night. None of the injuries appear to be life threatening currently. Some of the injured are Academy students or former students.

The Des Moines Police Department has been working closely with Des Moines Public Schools Public Safety and Roosevelt High School in the ongoing investigation. I will continue to stay in contact with Roosevelt throughout the investigation.

Some of you may be affected by this news, even if you do not attend Roosevelt, because of your shared experiences at Academy. Tomorrow we will open room 2001 (between Snyder and Danielson’s room) with counselors if you need to process these events.

The AP Calculus exams are tomorrow morning. If you will be unable to test because of your distress, please contact me and I can postpone your exam until Friday, May 20, at 8:30 AM.

I am so sorry to share this news. Please keep those involved in your hearts as they heal. At Central Academy we hold ourselves to the highest standards and support each other in our lowest moments.

Sincerely,

Dr. Gogerty
