Virtual Parent Teacher Conferences

Dear Central Academy students and families,

We are a little more than halfway through Term 1 classes.  We will be having virtual Parent Teacher Conferences on weekdays from Thursday, October 15 through Wednesday, October 21.  Term 1 ends on Monday, November 9.  Term 2 classes begin on Tuesday,  November 10.

VIRTUAL PARENT TEACHER CONFERENCES

There are three ways to participate in conferences:

  1. Conference by email: Most Academy teachers have already started contacting parents about student progress in their Academy classes last week. If you need a teacher’s email address you can find them on the Academy webpage under Faculty.
  2. Conference by phone:  If you would like a phone conference email the teacher with your phone number to make arrangements for the best time to meet.  If you do not have email, please call the Academy office (515-242-7888) between 8 – 4 on school days and we’ll send the teacher a message to call you.
  3. Conference on Teams: If you would like to book a real-time meeting with the teacher on Teams, go to our website> Faculty and click on “Parent Conferences” to book a meeting with the teacher(s) of your choice.  When using Teams, you’ll need to book the meeting at least 24 hours in advance.  It may also help to download the Microsoft Teams app to your phone or computer.  All student computers have Microsoft Teams already on them (we use Teams for our class meetings).

Watch this 3:46 minute VIDEO to learn how to book a virtual Parent Teacher conference at Academy.

If you have any technical difficulties, please email the teacher with whom you are trying to conference.

TRANSITIONING TO HYBRID

Central Academy classes will remain virtual for the first semester (Term 1 and Term 2).  The only in-person class at Academy this semester is the art class, “Throwing”, which will continue to meet in-person once a week.

Most Academy students have chosen to continue taking their home school classes virtually for Term 2.  However, if you have chosen the Hybrid model which start in middle schools on October 26 and in high schools November 10, only your home school classes will be in-person.  You will still need to log into your Academy class(es) virtually on your cohort days.  You may choose to log in to your Academy classes at your school on your cohort days or you may log in from home.

Each home school is planning where in the building Academy students can log into their Academy classes.  It varies from building to building.  Some are using common areas such as cafeterias, auditoriums, commons, or libraries. Others are using designated classrooms.  Your home school will communicate the plan to you.

FALL BREAK

Students have fall break starting on Friday, October 30 through Tuesday, November 3.  There are no classes on these days.  Classes resume on Wednesday, November 4.  Term 1 ends on Monday, November 9.
