Inspiring Educator, Denis Hildreth, Remembered

​Dear Central Academy Students and families,

UPDATE:

A Celebration of Life will be held for Mr. Hildreth on Saturday, November 16 from 2 -4 PM at Hoover High School in the Denis Hildreth Auditorium.

PREVIOUS NOTIFICATIONS

We are very saddened to inform you of the death of a staff member, Dennis Hildreth. Mr. Hildreth passed away October 10, 2019 after a short illness. Mr. Hildreth had a large impact on students and families over the many years he spent with Des Moines Public Schools. He will be greatly missed.

We understand that some students knew Mr. Hildreth more than others and all will be affected differently. Central Academy staff are here to support students and each other during this difficult time. We will also have members of the grief response team available on Friday for those students wanting additional support. Teachers will read a short message to their students in the morning and encourage them to talk about their feelings. The family is planning a celebration of life and will publish the details of the event when they become available in the newspaper and on Facebook.
