High School Credit Options for Middle School Students
Dear 8th Grade Academy students and families!
Para español, High School Credit Options for Middle School Students Espanol – Central Academy (dmschools.org), por favor llame Suleyma Reyes: 515-242-8543; 7:00 AM – 3:30 PM, ella vuelve a la oficina el 24 de junio.
Your middle school child has earned 0.5 high school credit for EACH of the high school academic courses taken at Academy during the fall semester. These credits will be on your child’s high school transcript. You have two choices as to how the passing grades will appear on the high school transcript: the regular letter grade (calculated in high school GPA) OR pass/no pass (NOT calculated in high school GPA). No matter which choice you make– letter grade or pass/no pass– if your child passed the class, they will earn high school credit for the course.
One parent or guardian must indicate how the credits will show up on the high school transcript by completing this form by March 8, 2023. Use this link https://tinyurl.com/CA8HSCreditFall2022
Once the choice has been made, the decision is final and cannot be changed later. If you do not complete the survey to indicate your choice by March 8, Central Academy will automatically add any grade of A(H), A, B, or C to the high school transcript as part of your child’s high school GPA and any grade of D or lower will be added to the high school transcript as P or NP.
Normally, this survey is sent to parents within two weeks of the semester’s end. This year our first semester survey is a little late because of all the unusual events right at semester change. You should expect a similar survey for your child’s second semester classes in June after the semester closes.
The 8th Grade Academy classes that earn high school credit are:
|Acc. Lang & Lit I S1||Academy Algebra I||Conceptual Physics S1||Accelerated Early US History|
|*Acc. Lang & Lit III S1||Academy Geometry||Environmental Science S1||*Accel AP Human Geo & Hist S1|
|Academy Algebra II||Accelerated Chemistry|
|||Rad Acc Alg 1/ Geom A S1|||||
|||Academy Pre-Calculus S1|||||
|||Advanced Mathematical Problem Solving|||||
If a student did not provide enough evidence of their skills and knowledge to pass the class by the end of the semester, we will record an NP (no pass) on the transcript automatically. The NP grade does not count towards the student’s GPA.
Video explanation of options:
When the State Law changed and required high school classes taken in middle school to appear on transcripts, we made a webinar explaining the change and the choice each student will have to make each semester for each class.
Making your Choices:
Look in Infinite Campus for your child’s fall semester classes and grades to help you decide which option to take. Usually, A, B, or C grades are counted towards the GPA (regular letter grade), D grades are listed as P (not in GPA), and any non-passing grade are listed as NP (not in GPA).
You do not have to make the same choice for all classes– you can choose Pass for one class and the traditional letter grade for others. Non-passing grades are automatically added to the transcript and will not count towards the GPA.
If you do not complete the survey to indicate your choice by March 8, Central Academy will automatically add any grade of A(H), A, B or C to the high school transcript as part of your child’s high school GPA and any grade of D or lower will be added to the high school transcript as P or NP.
