STUDENT ORIENTATION OPEN HOUSE AUGUST 20

If you missed orientation open house (or you just want the information from the FAQ session) find it here: Orientation Information FY2020

STUDENT PASSWORD RESET

Most students’ DMPS passwords for Infinite Campus and email systems will be reset on August 20. To access Infinite Campus you will need to  change your password by using a DMPS computer on the DMPS network.  We’ll have computers available during Orientation Open House so you can change your password and have access to Infinite Campus on your phone again if your school reset student passwords.  Student Password Reset

BELL TIMES AND BUS SCHEDULES

High Schools are changing to a modified block schedule for 2019-2020.  For detailed calendars and bell times check out this page: https://ca.dmschools.org/about-us/schedules-and-calendars/

Pedestrian Safety and Picking Up Students:  During the passing times and before and after school, parents will not be able to pull into the Academy drive way to pick up students. There are too many buses and pedestrians to make that safe.  We recommend that you establish a meeting spot and have your student come to you.  There is metered parking on 18th and Grand but they don’t enforce the meters during after school pick up times.  Encourage students to use the cross walk at 19th street to cross Grand.  The traffic is very busy on Grand and we want everyone to get to their destinations safely.   During class times (like picking up for an appointment or for a sick student) parents are welcome to use the Academy driveway or park across the street in the visitor parking.

FY2020 Bus and Parking Maps

Our doors open at 8:15— 30 minutes before classes start.  Breakfast is served in the Campus cafeteria.  We strongly recommend for safety that 8th grade students ride the yellow shuttle bus from their home school to Academy in the morning.  Eighth grade students can have breakfast at their home schools before boarding the shuttle bus to Academy at 8:25.  If parents of 8th grade students choose to drop their child off at Academy before school,  please keep in mind that doors open at 8:15 and DO NOT stop curbside on Grand or  use the drive way in front of Academy to drop students off.  Traffic is very busy and we will have about 18 buses that will need the curb and driveway.  Use visitor parking or 18th street to let students out without snarling traffic.  Also, please remind students to use the crosswalk.  There are a lot of student drivers, buses, pedestrians, and heavy morning traffic on Grand Ave.  Students who ride the shuttle buses have the safest travel to Academy in the morning.

STUDENT PARKING PASSES

Student parking passes will  be distributed when school starts.  Students who attend the Central Complex for more than half the school day are eligible for Parking Passes for West Lot 1. Out of District and Scavo students are eligible for the Reserved & Visitor Lot. Others may be considered on space available (unusual). Come to the Academy office or the Campus lobby to fill out an application for a parking pass in the first few weeks of school.

VIEWING YOUR CENTRAL SCHEDULE

Academy schedules are ready for viewing. If you have concerns about your Academy schedule or need to make changes please contact jami.powers@dmschools.org.  Your home school counselor should also be able to see your Academy schedule.

Once schedules for Central programs become available in Infinite Campus, you can find them using the drop down menu.  See this 1 minute VIDEO for directions!  If you’re using the Infinite Campus App on your phone, scroll all the way down past your 2nd semester schedule at your home school to see your Central schedule.

LUNCH

The community Eligibility Program (CEP) at many of the DMPS schools allows all students who attend the school to receive free school breakfast and lunch.  Students who attend CEP school will also have those benefits at Central.

Students from Roosevelt, Cowles,  and Merrill who fill out an application and qualify for free or reduced priced meals will also have those same benefits at Central with no additional paperwork.  Benefits from last year will continue through September this year to process new applications.

Use the same lunch number as you use at your home school.  Your lunch number is your 6-digit student ID number.

High School students eat lunch where they have their period 4 class.  Seventh and Eighth grade students eat lunch at their home schools–7th graders before they come to Academy, 8th graders when they get back to their home school. For details about when and where you eat lunch with the new modified block schedule, check out page 2 of this document:  Central Bell Times Fy2020 Students

SCHOOL SUPPLIES

We do not have a school supply list at Central Academy.  Generally, students will need pens, pencils, notebook paper and/or spirals, and folders or binders for staying organized.  Some students also like to have highlighters or other annotating or organizing tools. Most of this will be personal preference.  If there are any specific supplies needed for a class, your teacher will let you know.  You can ask at Orientation or when classes start.

ENGLISH:  Students taking English at Academy in grades 8 – 12 will need a set of novels that we will work from throughout the year.  Find out how to order your novels here:  https://ca.dmschools.org/2019/07/english-book-orders-for-2019-2020/

SUMMER ASSIGNMENTS

If you’re taking English or Social Sciences at Academy, you will have a summer assignment to complete before school starts on August 23.  Find all the details of your assignment here: https://ca.dmschools.org/about-us/summer-assignments/
