Academy Student Wins National Scholastic Art & Writing Award

National Scholastic AwardWe are pleased to announce that Susan Stacy, senior at Central Academy and Hoover High School, has earned national recognition in The Scholastic Art & Writing Awards of 2015.  Stacy (on the right) is pictured with Prateek Oberoi and Jenna Pokorny at a writers’ workshop.  Award winners have been identified by panels of creative professionals as the most talented young artists and writers in the nation.  This year, 3000,000 works of art and writing were submitted.  Only the top 1% were recognized at the national level.  These students have been invited to attend a ceremony at the world-famous Carnegie Hall on Thursday, June 11.  Among her other classes, Stacy takes creative writing as an independent study course at Central Academy.  Creative writing is facilitated by Sherry Brooks, Darci Kellen, Diane Morain, and Catie Miller. 

Since 1923, The Awards have recognized teenagers from across the country.  By winning Scholastic Art & Writing Award, Susan Stacy joins a legacy of celebrated authors and artists such as Andy Warhol, Sylvia Plath, and Truman Capote.
