Pictures of the Creative Writing Field Trip

IMG_5200On Tuesday, October 14th the Independent Study Creative Writing students took a field trip to visit the University of Iowa in Iowa City. The students visited the International Writers Program and listened to advice and insights from four amazing writers each from a different country. They heard from Auguste Corteau a fiction writer and playwright from Greece, Ali Cobby Eckermann a poet from Australia, Sadek Mohammed a poet and scholar from Iraq, and Yeow Kai Chai a poet and journalist from Singapore. After the writers departed, the students took a class on creative writing with a focus on paralinguistic (nonverbal elements of communication) modes of description from Hugh Ferrer, Associate Director of the International Writers Program. He is an amazing teacher who earned his undergraduate degree in Philosophy from Princeton University and graduate degree in Fiction from the Iowa Writers’ Workshop. Finally, the students enjoyed a walk through campus and to Prairie Lights book store where they perused the amazing selection. It was a wonderful opportunity for creative writers to see what they can do.   See pictures at https://www.flickr.com/photos/dmps_academy/sets/72157649154937055/
