Seniors earn all expenses paid trip to visit Harvey Mudd

DSCN0620 Seniors, Rachel Schneider and Luis Martinez, earned an all-expenses paid trip to Harvey Mudd College in Claremont, California.  The students visited with admissions and financial aid, took a campus tour, sat in on workshops and classes and attended lab sessions.  Rachel participated in the Chemistry Structure Lab and Luis went to the Quantum Optics Lab.

“The food was amazing” said Rachel, “it was a taste of California!”  One workshop included all the invited potential students to participate in a diversity exercise.  “There were students from all over the world interested in attending Harvey Mudd,” Luis commented.  A potential student got up to state something unique about where he was from and the next person had to state something they had in common with him and put a hand on his shoulder creating a link.  Luis said, “There were people from everywhere.  Although there was great diversity, they all had a common goal– acquiring knowledge.”  Rachel agreed, “It was a very valuable use of time.  I learned a lot about what I’m looking for in a college or university.”
