Alumni Twins Pursue STEM Careers

Read about a pair of twin sisters and close friends who, since graduating from Lincoln High School and Central Academy in 2004, have pursued STEM careers. Ru-Huey Yen went to medical school and is completing her residency at California Pacific Medical Center, while sister Ru-Shyan is an architect in Seattle. Emma White completed her PhD at ISU and is now a post-doctoral researcher at the Ames Laboratory, while sister Molly is an engineer at the NASA Johnson Space Center. Click here for more.

IB DP students undertake ISU Linguistics Challenge

IB seniors attended a Linguistics Challenge at ISU that consisted of both individual and team efforts to analyze and solve language puzzles and to explain underlying linguistic patterns. DMPS/Japanese students Explore City

Students in Dr. Sachiko Murphy’s Japanese class at Central Academy hosted students from Yamanashi, Japan today, and spent the day learning about immigration and diversity in Des Moines. The Japanese students, visiting for five days, met their local peers at Central Academy before hitting the streets to visit a Sikh temple, the Tai Dam village, and the Italian Cultural Center.
